Established in 1998, the Flat Cat Gallery originally exhibited a range of eastern rugs as well as work from local artists. A ‘flat Cat’ is a type of Tibetan rug… Woven to resemble a tiger skin, the rugs became known as flat cats, hence the Gallery name!
Although we no longer sell rugs the name has stuck. Today we are delighted to bring you an eclectic and enticing range of art, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery which is representative of the rich artistic talent in the Scottish Borders and beyond.
Enhanced by the beautiful furniture of Tim Stead with a few comfy couches and armchairs thrown in for good measure, the Café vibe is relaxed and friendly. All our sandwiches are made to order and our cakes (many of them made locally by Marion and Kerry) are absolutely delicious.
The Gift Shop
In our gift shop you will find a wide range of cards and gifts. We have sourced lots of quirky and unusual items, much of which you won’t find on the High Street and we stock a wide range of beautiful cards and prints – many reflecting the work of the artists we showcase in the Gallery.
Where are we?
You will find us on Market Street in the centre of the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Lauder. Located on the A68 between Jedburgh and Edinburgh, the Flat Cat is a great stopping off point for travellers journeying between England and Scotland, tourists and locals alike.
