The castle has it's origins in the
13th century and was rebuilt as the Maitland family home
in 1590 and greatly enhanced by the Duke of Lauderdale
in the 1670's . Now in the care of a Charitable Trust. |

Lauder Common Riding
Lauder Common Riding takes place on
the first Saturday in August with a programme of events
in the week running up to the big day. The election of
a Cornet and Cornet's Lass has been an integral part since
1911. This event contributes much to the life of the Royal
Burgh. |

Woods
Wooplaw Woods is an area of woodland
that is dedicated to community use and is there for people
like you to visit whenever you like. Within Wooplaw there
are four distinct areas Big Wood, Axehead Wood,
and Easter Park and Gullet Wood which lies within easy
walking distance on the Lauder to Galashiels road. |

Old Kirk
Lauder Parish Church, built for The
Duke of Lauderdale in 1673, is laid out unusually in the
form of a Greek Cross with the pulpit in the centre under
the octagonal bell tower; and the old box pews are retained.
