Feature Exhibition: Diane Mitchell, David Hay & Simon
Griffiths -
January - February
2012.
Diane
Mitchell
Diane,
originally from Cheshire, has lived and worked in the Borders since
1972 and in Lauder itself since 1975. Formerly Assistant Adviser
for Art with Scottish Borders Council, she has always continued to
paint and has had exhibitions in the South of France, Edinburgh and all
over the Borders.
The paintings on show reflect her love of the beautiful Borders from
the Berwickshire coast -the inspiration for the sea paintings, to the
Eildons - the iconic hills that dominate the central Borders.
David Hay
David Hay lives in the Scottish Borders village of
Yetholm. His paintings relate to the local landscape, travel and places
remembered. Sources are environmental....natural or built....often
beautiful but sometimes disturbing and threatening.
Atmosphere and the effect of changing light on the mood of his subjectsare of great interest to me.
I use waterbased underpainting then work and rework the
painting with glazes of colour until the image becomes established. In
2006 David Hay became a Professional Member of Visual Arts Scotland
with recent exhibitions in Bamburgh, Cumbria and Kranenburg.
Simon
Griffiths
My work is first and
foremost an expression of my love of the natural world.
As a child, I spent as much time as possible in the woods near my home,
exploring and drawing the things that lived within them, especially the
animals and birds.
My sculpture comes from within me, and I have spent many years
experimenting with different materials and studying the work of other
sculptors.
